Home Park
Home Park is a Key Peninsula success story, proving what a group of determined individuals can do. The property where Home Park is now located was once classified as a Pierce County Illegal Dump Site. It was cleaned up in a pilot program called "Pierce County Responds." The site trash items were were removed by Pierce County Public Works and others.
In 2008, the second transformation of the property began with plans for a community park to include a playground and picnic shelter. A playground committee was formed, and site work began for a picnic shelter. The shelter, which was sponsored by the Key Peninsula Lions Club, was constructed mostly by lumber that was milled from trees harvested from the local Volunteer Park.
A large playground complete with toddler area and top-notch picnic shelter were completed in the Fall of 2008. A concrete restroom was also added. The neighborhood park has been a tremendous asset to the community enjoyed as a gathering place for youth and adults. The shelter is available for rental functions by completing the picnic shelter rental form.
